Dr. Helen Friedman
Dr. Helen Friedman is a clinical psychologist in private practice in St. Louis since 1981. Specialties include sexual compulsivity, sexual trauma, dissociative disorders, posttraumatic stress, gender identity issues (working with transgender individuals and their families), and relationship issues. She has presented on these topics at national and international scientific conferences and has made numerous appearances on television, radio, and in print (New York Times, Washington Post, Jerusalem Post, Sunday Times of London, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, USA Today, New York Post, Psychology Today, FORTUNE, Cosmopolitan, New Woman, Mademoiselle, Redbook, YM, CosmoGIRL!, Wall Street Journal Online, Huffington Post, WebMD, Salon.com, abcnews.com, nbcnews.com, health.com, etc.). For 7 1/2 years, she hosted "PsychTalk" on KDHX Radio, for which she received the Community Partnership Award from BJC Behavioral Health Services “for providing thoughtful mental health education.” She served 4 years on the advisory board of CosmoGIRL!, a national teen magazine. Dr. Friedman is the president and media chair of the St. Louis Psychological Association; an associate clinical professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, St. Louis University School of Medicine; and serves as an advisor to the board of the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH, formerly the National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity). She was the 2005 SASH Merit Award recipient and is featured in the book, The Successful Therapist (Wiley, 2005).
